About Us
Avocet Care & Support is a Charity which provides Registered Residential Care and Sheltered Housing for older people.
Avocet is a non-profit making Registered Charity which is dedicated to making the lives of its Residents comfortable, safe, dignified and enjoyable whilst at the same time providing companionship and support to alleviate loneliness.
The Society has been providing accommodation for older people in the Southend area since 1964 and currently operates one Registered Care Home and two Sheltered Houses, all of which are run and managed by dedicated teams of paid staff and Volunteers.
The administration of the Society is provided by a central office which consists of the Chief Executive Officer and her management support team as well as the charity’s Maintenance Team. All these staff are directly employed by the Society and are fully trained in their areas of responsibility.
Sheltered Housing
The Society’s Sheltered Houses are large Houses which have been adapted and provided with specialist facilities, such as a Careline systems for the times when staff are off-duty, ramps, motorised scooter charging facilities, lifts / stairlifts and shower / wet rooms.
The Houses accommodate between 8 and 12 Residents and all rooms have the facilities for making breakfast and refreshments. Each House is run by a trained House Manager who cooks and serves the two main meals of the day.
Each Resident has a Support Plan which is completed at the time of joining the House and is designed to ensure that the Resident receives the appropriate amount of support whilst maintaining an independent and active life.
Cleaning of Residents’ rooms is provided in-house, weekly, and there are also laundry facilities on-site. When moving into an Avocet House, Residents are able to bring their own furniture and treasured possessions and are encouraged to maintain links with family, friends and others in the community.
