In making a home with Avocet Care & Support, Southend, you can be assured of finding the security and privacy you need once managing alone in your own home is no longer possible. Avocet Care & Support currently have one 25 bed residential care home and two supported sheltered housing schemes in the Southend and Leigh on Sea area.
Life at Avocet is not just about providing care, support and accommodation…
Activities range from quizzes, arts & crafts and cooking to gardening and attending local events. We also encourage those still able to do so to participate in community activity independently.
Our sheltered housing tenants are encouraged to maintain their community links also however we do provide weekly Zumba and Yoga sessions in house for those who wish to participate.
Our Services
Our Care Plans:
Each Resident has a Support Plan which is completed at the time of joining the House and is designed to ensure that the Resident receives the appropriate amount of support whilst maintaining an independent and active life.
We also provide:
• A trained House Manager who cooks and serves the two main meals of the day
• Provision of qualified Care staff 24-hours per day
• Services of the Charity’s Administration and Maintenance Teams
Our Accommodation includes:
• Cleaning of rooms
• Shower / wet room
• Assisted bathroom
• Laundry facilities (or Laundry included in selected accommodations)
• Hairdressing salon (selected accommodation)
• Communal lounge with TV / DVD
• Internet & Wi-Fi facilities
• Regular activities
• Working Committee of Volunteers
• Scooter charging facilities
Our Accommodation
St George’s House
This is a purpose-built House which provides modern, comfortable surroundings for its 25 Residents. In 2009 the House underwent an extensive refurbishment programme which has provided state-of-the-art facilities.
Frank Phillips House
This is a modern House which has the benefit of being built on one level and so provides ground-floor rooms. The House accommodates up to 12 Residents in rooms which are light and spacious, and each room has its own private patio overlooking the extensive garden.
St Margaret’s House
This imposing House is situated in the thriving and popular area of Leigh-on-Sea with its Old Town and tourist attractions. The House accommodates up to10 Residents in en-suited rooms and is popular for its proximity to local shops and facilities.

Working & Volunteering
Volunteers play a major role in Avocet and giving your time as a Volunteer can be one of the most satisfying ways of making a difference to other people’s lives.
Becoming a Volunteer with Avocet Southend will be a rewarding experience as there are many ways in which our Volunteers can make a difference to the daily lives of Residents – from providing much-needed companionship to getting involved in a House Committee, or even becoming a Trustee.
